The Red Trunk of the ‘IO TI ASCOLTO’ Exhibition arrives in IMG

PRESS RELEASE

The travelling exhibition to raise awareness against violence against women will remain in the Capriano del Colle company for two weeks.

Capriano del Colle (BS), 26th July 2023 – The “Io ti ascolto” exhibition contained in the symbolic red trunk that left Omb Saleri in Brescia in November continues its journey and arrives in Capriano del Colle (BS) at IMG, a leader in the sector of elastomer and thermoset injection moulding machines in Italy. After 17 stops in companies, schools and other locations sensitive to the theme of gender violence, it will remain here from today until 8th August.

The exhibition consists of some 20 texts written by boys and girls from schools in the province of Brescia, taken from the ‘Monia Delpero’ literary competition named after the memory of Monia, who was killed at the age of just 19 in 1989 by her ex-boyfriend and found after three days in the fields of Manerbio (province of Brescia). The initiative is promoted by Omb Saleri, Casa delle donne, Ori Martin, Elea Spa and is sponsored by the Municipality of Brescia and the ‘LE imprenditrici’ committee of Confindustria.

IMG has chosen to display the 20 pictures in the lobby, so that they can be enjoyed by all the people who pass through the company daily. Anyone wishing to visit it, including external guests, can do so during the hours 8:30 – 12:30 and 13:30 – 17:30. The subject of the exhibition are not works of art, but texts that serve as a starting point for personal reflection on a topic that bursts into the news every day in our country.

Barbara Ulcelli, CEO of IMG, explains: ‘Speaking of such a delicate topic, I cannot help but reflect on my personal experience as a mother, wife and entrepreneur in a purely male-dominated world such as the metalworking industry, where the presence of women and the difference in vision that this brings can be a plus. My professional commitment has also been possible thanks to the responsible sharing of family burdens with my husband. There is a great need for women to take the field, but to do so, care commitments must be shared with men, without reticence or guilt. We need a profound cultural evolution that brings balance and resets inequalities to zero’.

The exhibition is inspired by one of the editions of the literary competition for schools born in 2016 from an idea by Luca Martini in collaboration with the Casa delle Donne anti-violence centre in Brescia. “Io ti ascolto generated an unprecedented synergy between different subjects” adds Piera Stretti, former president of Casa delle Donne and a member of the association. The red trunk project, so effective in its essentiality, thanks to the relay between companies and schools of the ‘Network at school against violence on women’ has put the Anti-Violence Centre, the school world and the business world in communication, in a dialogue aimed at preventing and opposing violence against women, gender discrimination, stereotypes and sexist prejudices. If cultural change takes a long time, it is good practice that is building the foundations today’.

The exhibition is having a great echo: with a 15-day stay in each location, it has bookings until May 2024.  “The beauty of this travelling initiative is that it is reaching so many different people, companies, schools, foundations. Everyone enriches it with a few extra cues to remind everyone that gender violence is everyone’s problem,” explains Giovanna Montiglio of OMB, promoter of the project.

“Time does not heal, but it forces you to live with life. A life in which it was a murderer who chose for you’ comments Gigliola Bono, mother of Monia Delpero. ‘Because a murder does not just make you lose the person you love, it destroys that paradise that was in your life. Only the love in your heart remains, the rest goes away without you being able to do anything. My thanks to all the organisers of this exhibition: may the memory of Monia and all the victims remain in time.’

IMG is not new to initiatives of this kind: in 2023, the year of Brescia Bergamo Capital of Culture, the company launched ‘L’ARTE ImPRESSA: CHE BELLO LAVORARE!’, a project that began in April with an exhibition by sculptor Stefano Bombardieri set up in the factory. The idea concretises a precise vision of company welfare: art, in its many forms, becomes a tool for wellbeing, a source of vital energy and personal growth. Io ti ascolto, although it does not deal with art in the literal sense, is part of this path, which will continue in the coming months with other exhibitions.
